Organizations move people constantly. New hires, reorgs, relocations, return-to-office, a job rewritten by AI. When the moving is done, and the harder part begins: everyone has to make a home again at work – usually alone.
I study how people re-make belonging after they lose it — doctoral research with people who lost home in the most literal sense. The pattern holds in every office I've walked into. Every transition is a displacement — and most of what is ruptured can be mended.

What the research says; what underpins a successful transition; and what actually rebuilds belonging once someone has been moved.
The audience leaves with a model for how belonging is re-made, what to watch for when belonging breaks down, and language for what their teams are going through.
WORKSHOPS
Home as Process,
for a team
Half-day, in person, with a team in transition
Before: a short questionnaire, so I arrive knowing what's happening and can speak directly to the real pains being felt.
The workshop: preset the model, then the team works its own transition through it. We create a team that learns to recognize each other — which shifts the ground for everyone, whatever else is going on.
After: a follow-up session at 2-3 weeks, and a one-page report on what occured in the room and what the team is carrying forward.
This gives you a team that can see each other with greater understanding, empathy, and respect.

ABOUT HEATHER
Heather Rees is a researcher, facilitator, and PhD candidate in psychology at Meridian University, studying how belonging is re-made after displacement. She has worked with displaced communities in Guatemala and post-conflict Bosnia, holds an MSc from the London School of Economics, and has presented talks and workshops internationally.
