RESEARCH & SPEAKING

Displacement, belonging, and home as a living process

My doctoral research asks what actually happens when people lose a home — and what makes it possible to create one again.

The research

Home is usually treated as a noun: a place you have, lose, or return to. My work approaches it as a verb — an ongoing process of rupture, integration, and belonging that unfolds within a person as much as around them. Through in-depth qualitative inquiry with people who have lived through displacement, I study how that process moves, where it stalls, and what helps it begin again.

The aim is a construct I call Home as Process: a way of understanding belonging that is useful to clinicians working with uprooted clients, to organizations receiving displaced people, and to anyone rebuilding a life after the ground has shifted.

Speaking & workshops

I speak and lead workshops for clinical, academic, and general audiences — from conference talks on the psychology of displacement to experiential workshops on belonging and rootedness. Talks are grounded in the research and shaped for the room, whether that room holds therapists, students, or a company navigating relocation and change.

Talks & writing

A growing record of public work — this list expands as new talks and publications land.

Home as Process

Rethinking belonging as something we make, not something we find — and what that means for how we support the uprooted.

The psychology of displacement

What rupture does to identity and attachment, and the conditions under which integration becomes possible.

Belonging in transition

For teams and communities in the middle of change: how people re-root, and how leaders can help rather than hinder.

The inner work of moving

A practical, contemplative session on making a home in yourself when your outer home is in motion.
